SETTING: FAYREN

FAYREN

CURRENT GUARDIAN: MAVIS VERMILLION

LEGAL NOTICES: The following laws have been added by player characters in this city:
--

Description
A beautiful and rustic town with cobbled streets and buildings constructed primarily out of wood. There are several inns and taverns, a blacksmith's shop, and a few churches erected to various deities. Various races frequent this village, such as elves and dwarves, with the occasional rare being such as a minotaur or a gillman. Surrounding the town are a number of small farms, and beyond that lie enchanted forests, vast mountain ranges, and all kinds of mystical creatures, even dragons.

The Beach & Ocean
Fayren is known throughout Genessia for having the most pristine, most beautiful beaches. It's a long stretch and if you're the type to go swimming or sailing, there are at least a few miles of glittering blue ocean.

The Cloister of Trials
A holy building, worn with age, on the outside of which stands an imposing statue of an angel with a scale in its hands. The souls of all who enter will be weighed. Standing outside is an old monk, hooded and weathered, who seems to have made it his life's mission to warn people from carelessly entering. The aged building's exterior is the same for all who enter, but the interior is much different. Those who breach the massive stone doors will feel their hearts and minds probed, and what was hidden shall be laid bare. Large mountains, dense forests, dank caves: all or none of these may await for those who are tested.
There are, naturally, many beasts which await. For those who brave the monsters without, they must contend with those within. Those who finish these trials may be rewarded -- some with great truths, either about themselves or the world; some with newfound strength, to overcome what awaits outside. But be warned: those who fail will have their reward as well. Some may be routed to a dark path, never to rise again.
Beware, for those who exit the Cloister of Trials will change. What shape that change will take is up to them.

Amatsu Inn - Owner: Ayame Sasaki
A three-leveled traditional Japanese inn with the purpose of a retreat for those who wish to take a break from their everyday stresses. Built on the slope of a hill near a river that leads to the beach. It has multiple hot-spring baths and dining options, and provides spa and touring services of nearby forests, caves, and waterfalls. It has event spaces that can be rented for events involving large groups of people. For more information, see here.

Cake Town - Owner: Orihime Inoue
Rather than creating a stand-alone bakery in town, the Fayren branch of Cake Town is located on the first floor of the Amatsu Inn. Most of the goods sold here are imported from the Genessia City branch as batter and dough, but baked fresh on the premises to ensure that good bakery smell fills the air around this little shop. There's a large wood-fire oven for large rounds of bread with a nice rustic feel to it, with a good thick crust and a soft chewy interior. But of course, there's also a big variety of cakes, hand-held pies filled with fruit or minced meat and spices, cookies, and cute little tarts with simple dragons, fairies, and unicorns piped onto them with colored icing.

The Dancing Donner
The first floor is a pub that stays merry through the wee hours of the night, but the sound seems fairly well blocked-out in the small apartment space on the second level. There are only four rooms total for rent, but each has its own bathroom, wood stove, and comes fully furnished. Plus, the party is never far beneath your feet if you get bored.

The Drunken Monkey
A wild and rowdy tavern if ever there was one. The barmaids are plentiful and pretty, protected by the burly bouncers who are only too eager to pounce on a troublemaker and beat him senseless before tossing him in the dirty alley out back. The food is good and hot, and a roaring fireplace welcomes guests from the cold. Rooms are available on the second floor for those who are reluctant to go home for the night. Close to the bar is a raised stage for performers who happen to be traveling through looking to earn some coins, and there's a trio of musicians who are always on hand to provide lively music for those yearning for a jig.

Fairy Haven
On the furthest edge of Fayren, down a road and over a small bridge in the wooded area is Fairy Haven, the newly built guild and base of operations for the team of mages from Fiore. The building, built by Wily and his robots, is situated far enough from town that their shenanigans won't be disruptive. The main part of the guild is the hall where people can go to make mission requests, and where the most activity occurs in the guild. It is also equipped with a storage room or two and a kitchen area. A door at the back of the hall opens into a rounded courtyard where sparring occurs, and is bracketed by a pair of dorm buildings; boys on the left, girls on the right. Currently there are three rooms total in each dorm, with room for expansion should more people join the Fairy Tail Guild.

Favnir Ruins
The Favnir Ruins were discovered on November 11th, 2015. The magic in the ruins makes difficult to teleport into or out of it. It has been picked clean of all of the treasures that had been inside of it by bounty hunters and adventurers. There are many monsters inside (Reanimated Skeletons, Living Vines, Dire Bats, Clockroaches, Giant Boars, Dire Wolves, Twig Blights, Barghest and Stone Golems).

These creatures turn into black mist when they are dispatched, and they don’t appear to be able to leave the Ruins. At least not without some magical assistance. Even then, however, the large creatures can only last outside of the ruins for ten minutes before the turn to black mist. The smaller ones can last up to an hour. The ruins appear to have belonged to a clan called the Favnir, but not much is known about them or why monsters inhabit it now.

Fawn's Forge
There are rumors that Fawn is part giantess, but for the most part, no one gives her flack about it. She makes the best weapons and armor in all the land. Without her forge, Fayren's knights would remain unprotected and unarmed. She only hires those she believes to be true of heart to assist her with her smithing.

Fish Market
In the harbor area, an open market for the day's catch is available. A variety of fishermen sell their catches from the sea. What's available may change based on the weather, and after a storm there will be less selection than days where the sea was kind to the fishermen. Due to Fayren's technology levels, the water in Fayren is the cleanest of all the archways, so the quality of fish is best from this market.

The Forest
A huge and largely uncharted forest, this environment takes up probably 80% of the Fayren archway. Most of the subarchway gates are located within the township. The forest itself is filled with creatures both mundane and magical and virtually no part is unlived in, even if you may not realize there's something nearby. It is not recommended that you upset the environment unless you want to face the consequences.

Guardian's Tower
A pagoda-styled structure built by former City Guardian Azula. Though the architecture style stands out from many of the other buildings, this one is fortified and has many Fire Nation-like qualities. It is now considered as an office for Fayren's current City Guardian.

Island Sanctuary - Owner: Android 17
Non-Profit Organization, depends on donations. A place for rescued creatures that can't defend for themselves or neglected from owners. This includes monsters, pets, and other creatures.

Juliet's Lair - Owner: Grell Sutcliff
Juliet's Lair is a lingerie shop which will cater to high class buyers, those who have high tastes, and those who want to buy things discreetly via online service. Why does such a place need to exist? Well, not everyone wants to buy just any type of lingerie, and some people are shy or literally don't want their laundry known by all of the world. She can even go to a person's place of abode to outfit them with what they need at an extra cost. The store will be open only two days a week from the early evening until late at night, while orders online may be placed at any time.

Lake Bellaheim: Deep in the mountains exists a beautiful lake formerly covered by a large canopy. Beneath the lake's surface is an underwater village inhabited by a tribe of mermaids, the areas closest to the shore being vaguely visible. The mermaids are currently friendly toward strangers, albeit curious as it has been a long while since they've received visitors.

Mahora Fortune and Onmyoudo - Owner: Konoka Konoe
A quaint, almost cottage-like building on a main thoroughfare in Everglade. The inside is flourished with a more Japanese styled flair, which includes various trinkets. Konoka sells Omyoudo charms, which vary in effect from being able to ward off humans and demons alike, various spells, or creating familiars, which include simple stuff like paper animals to doubles of people. The charms and their effectiveness depend on the magical power of the user. Konoka also offers fortune telling.

The Maw
Located far to the North of the Royal Castle, the Maw is a seemingly endless labyrinth of canyons and caverns carved deep into the earth. Mostly unmapped, explorers run the risk of coming across volcanic vents, lava flows, and a constantly shifting landscape from the seismic activity plaguing the region to say nothing of the monsters that make their homes there. Even approaching from the air is nearly impossible thanks to the clouds of ash and smoke blanketing everything. Rumors abound about what can be found in the depths, everything from treasure, a lost demonic civilization, even a gateway to the underworld. One thing is certain, exploring the Maw unprepared is suicide although explorers who are lucky or clever enough might be able to find a guide from one of the many goblin and orc tribes that inhabit the place after being driven out of the rest of Fayren centuries earlier.
Notable sub-locations within The Maw:
Crystal Caves- Event location. A large cave covered in magical crystals. The white ones grow behind you, so anyone trespassing may end up lost in the Maw for some time. There don't appear to be any more green ones around, and there are a number of the Seek Flowers.

Mokona's Magical Cafe - Owner: Weiss Schnee
A magical place where the mystical and the magical all come in one place. Enjoy the sinfully delicious treats while you enjoy the wonders of the cafe. May or maybe contain a lost and found.

Once Upon a Time Enterprises - Owner: Regina Mills
OUATE organizes, caters, and runs location-based and themed special events including parties, weddings, concerts, and balls. Whether big or small or your yen is for fairy tales or space operas, OUATE specializes in treating all of their clients like royalty.

Other World's Teahouse
The Other World's Teahouse's entrance appears to just be a shack with a very fancifully written name across the front. Upon entry, the shack seems to have nothing but a large body mirror with a note that says "Welcome, step right in." Those brave enough to touch the mirror will realize it is a portal to a fanciful tea shop located in the center of Fayren's mountains, unreachable by foot with the best view of the mountain tops. Hot fresh tea is served loose leaf and by hand only. Please do not break any mirrors within the Teahouse.

Over the Moon - Owner: Sun Wukong
Over The Moon is a shop in Fayren. It works in conjecture with Under The Sun Retrievals to offer a variety of things. It has a selection of animal meat, herbs and spices and ingredients that can possibly be used for magic rituals. A greenhouse is situated on top of the building with Over The Moon will grow and cultivate their own herbs and greenery. The items offered will expand and grow over time.

Poultices, Potions, and Pinpricks!
Looking to get started on your way to being a proper magic? Check out Poultices and Pinpricks, seller of poultice charms, recipes, cauldrons, spinning wheels, totems, dowsing rods/stones, and more. It's like an outlet mall for magic all crammed into one very claustrophobic building. It's probably better to ask the owner, Mag the Magnificent, for exactly what you're looking for. Despite the clutter, she knows exactly where everything is at exactly the moment you ask for it. Perhaps it's some kind of strangely activated detection spell. Who knows.

Ribbons & Archive - Owned by: Eliot Durant
Expanding on Eliot's information collecting business, the Fayren Branch will specialize in categorizing and researches magical artifacts. The goal is to make it easier to find magical solutions to specific problems.

Royal Castle and Ivory Tower
The king, queen, prince, and princess all dwell at the beautiful, alabaster castle, which is settled high on the hill to overlook the village of Fayren. Banners of red and gold fly from the towers, matching the tunics of the royal guards who patrol the stone halls. The tallest spire is that of the Ivory Tower, where magicians and spellcasters of all kinds gather to study and learn their art. The two teachers are Trynn and Rameus, a young wedded couple. Trynn teaches white magic and healing spells, while her husband Rameus teaches offensive spells and combat capabilities.

Schnee Company: Fayren Branch - Owner: Weiss Schnee
Located near archway entrance inside Fayren, Schnee Company provides information and services in order to help newcomers to Fayren adjust to a more traditional technology level, travel services, finding housing and employment within the city, basic maintenance of city events and planning, as well as travel planning and assistance with public transportation services. A subsidiary of the welcoming branch and headquarters in Genessia, this branch of Schnee Company focuses on Fayren-relevant services. Schnee Company offers workshops on horseback riding, agriculture, magic, and much more in addition to their usual services.

Scribes and Scripts - Owned by: Mavis Vermillion
It’s a smallish shop and will soon be filled with books. There is a back room where things that need to be cataloged or priced sit on organized shelves as well as a back door that remains locked. The front of the store is open with wooden book shelves lining the walls and a few shorter shelves in the center. It designed so the person sitting at the counter in the back right of the store can see everyone in the store at once. There is a pedestal in the middle of the room with magical protective runes written around its base. A feathered pen and a book rest on the light brown Birch wood pedestal, which is meant for people to write information in about Genessia or things that they find here. Levy had set up the protective spell making it impossible to remove the book from the pedestal unless she is there to remove it. There are small signs along the wall designating different sections that were requested by those who responded to her message: Text Books, History of Worlds, Romance, Games, and Magic. There are a few smaller sections with smaller sighs but she’s made sure to collect these particular books. There is a sign at the front of the desk with the words: Book Hunters. If a book isn’t there then they will surely try and find it.

The Singing Meadows
A flowery meadow with a number of reed-like plants. When the winds blow through the reeds, it sounds like the meadow is singing. It's a lovely sound, and a wonderful place to relax.

Sir Cedric's School for Squires
Sir Cedric's teaches those of all ages in the art of physical combat with various weapons befitting the age of knights. This is not a school for magicians, this is a school for those wishing to learn or teach swordsmanship, archery, mace work, shield work, how to use a catapult, and more. Note: Sir Cedric may teach combat, but does not have the right to knight anyone. You must be knighted by the king and queen of Fayren, but here you may learn the chivalrous path. Those who do not follow the code of chivalry will be removed from the grounds and asked not to return.

Under the Sun Retrievals - Owner: Sun Wukong
Under The Sun Retrievals is a business based in Fayren that specializes in retrieving herbs and other ingredient type items from around the Fayren area. Their biggest customers are Potion Shops and Apothecary, but anyone that wants a specific thing retrieved from the forest need only put in an order. Aside from that, they also hunt the creatures and animals of the Fayren Forest for people or professions that might desire animal parts or meat.

Underground Waterways
A long abandoned sewer system filled with running water, twisting corridors, and plenty of creatures that now make it their home. It's been said to even have become a font of magic, a place so riddled with magical energies that strange things could be found there such as glowing mushrooms and other magic-infused fauna. Dangerous monsters lurk there, feeding off the old magicks, but it is home to many great alchemical resources as well.

Current Archways Activated
Archangel City - Activated by Anastasia Leonhart
Click for more information.

Monster Island - Activated by Android 17
n island off the coast somewhere in the DBZ world (Earth). It's inhabited with various creatures and monsters including a rare Minotaurus. There are common animals to rare creatures such as unicorns. There's a beach on one side, jungle in the middle, mountain ranges, deserts in one part, caves, and even a forest with a waterfall. It can inhabit almost any creature and monster, an ideal paradise for them. Close by, there is another island, much smaller and more resident where a cabin is, Seventeen's house.

Mount Canaa/Lake Purity - Activated by Mewtwo
Located on the largest mountain in the Jhoto Region, Mount Canaa is a unique geological formation, holding a crater-like formation at its summit. Within the crater, are lush forests, and a lake containing crystal clear waters with unique healing properly. The forests provide habitats for a wide variety of Pokemon native to the Jhoto Region, though the trees and water make it an ideal spot for bug-type Pokemon to come to mate, though bugs are hardly the only Pokemon to call the area home. Within the center of the lake is an island, that seems to have been an ancient fortress of some sort. There is an enclosed dock for boats to come and go from, with stairs leading up into the fort itself. The stairs lead to a large sheltered meadow with flowers and berry trees thriving around a central pond containing the spring that feeds the outside lake. The area's unique geological formation also makes it susceptible to harsh weather conditions, often shifting on an hourly basis, the mountain is often buffeted on all sides by intense storms that all but prevent normal methods of scaling the mountain, though the crater remains relatively sheltered. Old Hell/Chireiden - Activated by Koishi Komeiji
Hidden in the underground waterway is the archway to The Palace of the Earth Spirits. It is a massive three story building consisting of a strange mix of Gothic and Russian architecture. It towers above the sprawling expanse of a well tended garden filled with a wide variety of plants as well as animals kept as pets. It is illuminated by a large number of spherical lamps on metal posts, each one giving off a good bit of light and heat. The inside is well kept and just as impressive as the exterior and is filled with massive frescos inlaid with gold and ivory with marble floors and furniture made of velvet and rich, polished wood. It is lit by similar lights as the exterior as well as the faceted multicolored glow that filtered though the many stained glass windows. Its grandeur only marred by the many holes bored through the various walls, ceilings, and floors to make room for rumbling steam pipes of various sizes as well as a variety of draping electrical cables. More information.

The Pillars of the Holy See of Ishgard - Activated by Era Ra
The Pillars served as the seat of Ishgard's former theocracy as well as the residential ward of the nobility. The pristine beauty of the buildings in the Pillars above is in stark contrast to the crumbling masonry and scorched structures in Foundation below. The link provided lists the notable buildings/landmarks of the Pillars. Its aesthetic is gothic stonework; traditional old-school cathedrals, spires, etc. It has a wonderful view of the mountain the city was founded on, Abalathia's Spine - perfect for those who enjoy watching sunrises and sunsets. The air is very cold all year around (along with the rest of Ishgard) given it's altitude and the cold climate of Coerthas in general. It is a three floor manor with towers and spires. Available images found here. The upper levels would be decorated with much of the same aesthetic and have numerous rooms (a minimum of four bedrooms).

Serenes Castle - Activated by Leanne
Serenes forest is a paradise which emits peaceful and healing aura to all who enters it. It is always Springtime and the forest itself is alive for those who can sense ancient souls. It is a holy place where the prime rule of no bloodshed is allowed can be felt. Deep within the forest, there are stone homes littered about but at the center of it all is castle. Not a grand one like most human castles but for Herons within Serenes, it is grand enough with no gates or structures to block access to it. It is around 4 stories tall with a couple of basement levels. It is filled with multiple rooms for living, studying and grooming. There is only one kitchen and dining room which is close to the audience chamber. Each living quarter has its own balcony. There would be some Herons living in the castle as maids and servants, each one with different colored hair and wings but not a single one with blonde hair and white wings.

Shrieking Wilds of Sorneith - Activated by Azalea
The dense, jungly overgrowth of the Shrieking Wilds cloaks the land in darkness even during the day, creating a haven for the nocturnal beasts leaping between boughs and swinging from thick, ropy vines. Ancient mossy trees, wrapt and bent around twisting footpaths, forever quake with activity above, and the air is astir with the bellows of hidden creatures. There are various clearings throughout the edges of the lair which serve as the "bedrooms," which they refer to as "dens." Usually two or three dragons sleep in each clearing, such as mates or siblings. The beds very much resemble the nests in the Nesting Grounds, with leaves laid over the ground to provide cushion. More information.

Storybrooke, Maine - Activated by Belle French
A small town hidden within a forest in Maine. It's the type of town where everyone knows everyone, so any new additions tend to be noticed. Whether visiting Granny's for a hot cocoa with cinnamon or checking out the mines that run underneath the city, have a healthy caution- magic runs afoot in this town, and magic always comes with a price. More information.

Vale - Activated by Yang Xiao Long
A slightly more modern town compared to most fantasy world standards, as it features cars, trains, and aircraft as well as holographic projections. But it's not uncommon to see people wearing armor and carrying weapons and shields around with them. Energy is primarily derived from Dust, sold in powdered or crystal form, attributed to different elements. Dust is often used to power weapons as well. However, outside of the towns, one must be wary lest one risk an encounter with the creatures of Grimm - soulless monsters bent on the destruction of mankind.

Ylisstol - Activated by Robin
The capital city of Ylisse. It is a peaceful, tranquil nation that was ruled by the Exalt. People of this nation worship the holy dragon, Naga, as their god. Due to their disdain for fighting, only a minimal amount of soldiers defend the country. However, Ylisse does have an army of its own, mostly comprising Cavaliers, Mages, Clerics, Priests, and Pegasus Knights. Ylisstol itself is a thriving and lively city, with cobblestone roads and stone houses. The roads are lined with people and the market is always open during the day, selling anything from food to weapons. There is a magnificent castle there as well which houses all members of the royal family.

Whitebeard's Home Island - Activated by Marco
One Piece 909, the chapter in which Whitebeard's home island appears. The island is shaped like a smokestack, and the outer coastline is covered in the crumbling ruins of a once prosperous town, terraced along the mountainside. Several dense stands of pine trees have taken root amid the rocks and ruins. A waterfall cascades down the side of the mountain, obscuring a long, dark tunnel which opens up on a valley in the center of the island. The valley is verdant and lush, home to a quaint village, where people have domesticated sphynxes. Marco has a two story log cabin with a waterwheel. Adjacent to the island are Whitebeard and Ace's memorials, which are considered to be a part of the town.

The Queen's Castle - Activated by Regina Mills
The castle, the royal manor, and the surrounding countryside. A peculiar construction set in the foothills of Misthaven's majestic mountains. Although the inside is a fairly traditional stone palace with a dining room that can seat well over one hundred souls, beautiful tapestries, soaring archways and stained glass windows, the exterior bristles with soaring blades, presumably designed to prevent dragon and ogre attacks. In the grasslands where the foothills dip into green farmlands sits the large royal manor where Regina was raised. Past the heavily forested hills beyond lies a port from which a young Regina often dreamed of escaping, but more importantly, a favored spot for lovers, known as Firefly Hill from which the port can be seen. The port itself is little more than a backdrop as in a painting but the fireflies and the view from the hill remains. The area encompassed is filled with animals and some few dangerous beasts, but comparatively few humans. (Does not include villages, markets, or other populated areas.) Opens in November 2018.

CLOSED BUT PAID FOR ARCHWAYS: Snake Mountain (Activated by Skeletor), Ice King's Palace (Activated by the Ice King), Babylon Treasure Storehouse (Activated by Gilgamesh), Erdemorne, Salimdor (Activated by Ivina Darcann), Nassau (Black Sails ver.)(Activated by Eleanor Guthrie)
